Aware! was formed in a Denver living room during the winter of 2009. It was the direct result of a trip to Jerusalem taken by a number of M.A. students from the University of Denver. On that trip, we worked with Rabbis and Refugees, met with students and settlers, and we returned to the States with a profound realization: Americans have a stake in this conflict. Whether we liked it or not, we realized, as Americans, we were intimately involved in a conflict that has spanned over 60 years and had taken countless lives. The worst of it was, we really didn’t know that much about it. We were plagued with misinformation, and intimidated by a less-than-civil discussion about the issues that foster the conflict. We decided we needed a platform; a space where we could struggle with those issues together as we informed our friends and family about what we have seen, heard and experienced.
Aware! is that collaborative platform. It’s a space for us to tell our stories, both inspiring and tragic, and to learn more about this conflict together so we can inform our communities of influence and inspire practical action for peace.
